1st QuickRes is a display management utility for Windows. It runs as a tray icon and allows you to manage your display settings from a pop-up menu. When you click on the tray icon, a list of possible display resolutions will pop-up, taking a good part of your screen. Along with each resolution, there will be color options (16 bits, 32 bits, etc). If you click any of the available options, 1st QuickRes will attempt to set that resolution to your screen.
This way seems to be faster than going to the display settings and configure them manually. If the resolution is not supported, the screen will turn black for a few seconds and go back to the previous resolution. In any case, even if the resolution is supported, you will get a warning window asking whether you want to apply the resolution or go back to the previous one, which is extremely helpful.
Other than setting resolutions, the application also allows you to manage your desktop wallpaper and screensaver options. You can launch any of your screensavers from the tray menu. Also, you can change your wallpaper. Additionally, you can also change the desktop size (zoom) and your screen's refresh rate.
In short, the application seems to be well made and it is very convenient to use. I would like to have it if it could detect the supported resolutions by my hardware so that it doesn't clutter my screen with all the possible combinations. Other than that, it is quite good as it is.
